You need to slide the index finger of one hand in between the base of your palm and the tips of your fingers. The thumb should hold the racquet. Before buying any tennis racquet check whether there is enough space for your index finger to grip the racquet. It is better to select the racquet grip that is small. If you need, you can enhance the circumference by attaching an overgrip tape (a soft, clothlike, padded tape).
You also need to check the head size before you buy any tennis racquet. Depending on your playing standard the racquet head size should be chosen. Oversize racquets have area of between 130 and 105 square inches. It is better for a beginner to select the racquet with bigger head as it allows more spin thus providing greater power to be transferred to a hit. Accomplished and famous players use mid-sized to traditional racquets. The surface area of these rackets is between 105 and 85 square inches. The smaller racquet head size offers more stability and manoeuvrability.
While choosing a racquet you need to check whether it is made from good material or not. Most of the racquets are created from graphite. Other racquets appropriate for beginners are created from titanium or light-weight aluminium. Kevlar or Boron racquets are the lightest. But they are stiff.
